SLAP: A New Residency In The Jungle
We’re excited to announce the launch of a new initiative – SLAP (SoundLab Asia Pacific) Residency. A program brought to you in partnership with Modern Sky Festival Helsinki, Detour Asia, the Dusun and Border Movement (see below for more info about the partners). SLAP aims to encourage an ongoing intercultural dialogue by promoting creative exchange amoung music scenes from Asia Pacific and Europe.
Slap #1: The Dusun
The first edition of SLAP will take the shape of a 5 day residency in March 2017 at luxury Malaysian tropical jungle resort The Dusun. Participants will be invited to take part in a tailored residency program that will see the artist meet and collaborate with local musicians and producers, undertake production master classes, interact with local labels and music businesses and get the opportunity to play gigs in Asia. Each residency will be shaped around the individual needs of each successful applicant creating a unique residency opportunity.
Who can apply?
An ongoing residency series, the first edition of SLAP will be based on an open call for applications that will open on October 1st 2016 and end 1st November 2016. Applications for this round will only be accepted by artists that are Finnish residents.. What will be covered?
Accommodation, food and production costs for the project will be covered by the residency. We will also assist with travel funding applications making this an all expenses paid residency.
The SLAP residency will be documented and presented on www.bordermovement.com and social media channels which will feature regular articles, visual diaries and posts by the artist and local writers.

About Border Movement:
Border Movement is project that fosters interaction between the electronic music scene in South Asia and Germany. Border Movement is executed via an online platform and series of events, workshops and residencies. Border Movement is an initiative realised with the support of the Goethe-Institut.
About Detour Asia:
Detour Asia is a niche booking agency formed in Malaysia by CEE, a veteran in the underground music industry in Vienna and Berlin representing artists like Daedelus, Phon.o, Slugabed or Sarah Farina all over Asia. Detour Asia also runs SoundLab together with Border Movement in Asia Pacific, supported by Goethe-Institut.
About Modern Sky Festival Helsinki:
Modern Sky Festival Helsinki brings the most topical international acts in indiepop, electro and alternative rock to Helsinki, Finland 26–27 August.
The festival is set at Ääniwalli venue, expanding to the adjoining indoor skatepark, known for hosting some of the hottest clubs in town, in the midst of office buildings near the trendy Kallio neighbourhood. Exceptional side programme and a variety of good food and drinks will be published in the coming weeks.

About the Dusun:
The Dusun is a small eco-resort on a fruit orchard, which became a pit stop for musicians like Modeselektor, Kode9 & Sarah Farina while touring Asia. With six fully equipped bungalows, guests can enjoy privacy, the calm songs of birds, and lovely views of the distant Mantin hills and Berembun Rainforest. Music has always been important for the people running the resort and project like THE DUSUN SESSIONS and SoundLab all found a home here in the jungle.
