Red Bull Music Academy returns to India with Benjamin Damage
The brand now synonymous with some of the best music from across the world also hosted the international premier and exclusive screening of award winning director Ralf Schmerberg’s full length feature film ‘What Difference Does It Make?’ in Mumbai – earlier this year. Now, not even 6 months into the year they have just announced a 4-city tour around India with one of the Academy’s most forward thinking techno aficionados; Benjamin Damage.
The first ever artist to be signed to Modeselektor’s 50 Weapons imprint back in 2010, he has collaborated with fellow Welsh producer Doc Daneeka (already brought over by Wild City) resulting in the widely acclaimed full length album – ‘They! Live‘. A fantastic release.
His debut solo album ‘Heliosphere’ was also highly rated by critics worldwide and ‘010x’ was described as “track of the summer” by Marcel Dettmann. As a DJ, he bangs and has played at some of the biggest festivals in the world including Movement, Sonar and Melt!, as well as legendary clubs such as Fabric and Berghain.
In keeping with the Academy’s theme of pushing its own aspirant’s he was also a participant at the New York edition of the RBMA (2013) alongside fellow artists and guest lecturers Branko, Dorian Concept, Flying Lotus, Evian Christ, Sinjin Hawke, Koreless and even Pakistani newbie Smax:
“It was very exciting to be involved in RBMA. The people there are extremely passionate about music and they created a perfect environment to be creative and find new ideas with the studios and amazingly talented people they brought in. I’d heard a lot about the academy from people who had been on previous terms and everything was positive. Hearing the guest lecturers is very inspiring and gives you confidence to keep doing your own thing and not worry about what anyone else is doing. I think that’s the most important thing I’ve learnt from being there.” – Benjamin Damage
Rather than going for obvious city choices, RBMA’s exclusive tour with Damage will stop over at Kolkata, Chennai, Pune and Hyderabad, later this month. Full details can be seen below:
Wednesday, 21 May: Tantra – Kolkata
Friday, 23 May: Dublin – Chennai
Saturday, 24 May: Euriska – Pune
Sunday, 25 May: Over the Moon – Hyderabad
