Weekender Mix: Su Real

In preparation for his upcoming NH7 Weekender gigs, GRIND Champion and late night producer of banging bass DJ Su Real has released a 55 minute mixtape. The tape crosses almost as many genres as it has tracks, and shines the spotlight on artists, both Indian and international, that will be playing at Weekenders across the nation this year.

We don’t have a lot to say about the mix, and that’s not just because the quality speaks for itself. If you’ve been reading the pages of Border Movement, we’ve already told you how much we love this shit. Frame/Frame, Sickflip, Nucleya & Delhi Sultanate, Dualist, Sandunes… this is our bread and butter. One of our favourite moments comes at the transition between the hard as nails Reggae Rajahs Slew Dem Dubplate and the reggae guitar and horns of Nucleya , Delhi Sultanate and I.P. Singh collaboration New Delhi Nuttah . But throughout, diverse styles blend together as smooth as syrup and sprite in a styrofoam cup.

Don Dadda Su Real also features the more compelling international artists who are dropping by the party. Personal favorite Poirer checks in with some dirty tropical bass, and we’re always happy to give Simian Mobile Disco’s sublime Hustler another listen. But this reviewer was most excited by the introduction to the silky and thoughtful emcee Humble The Poet . I can’t imagine what I was doing not listening to him before.

Peep the tape, love the sound, and then come out to see DJ Su Real close out the Dub Station stage in Pune, and the whole GRIND collective bring booty shaking madness to NH7 Delhi Weekender next month.
