Pettah Interchange 2015
Pettah Interchange is a celebration of alternative music, art and culture, that has taken place annually since 2012 in abandoned and neglected urban spaces in Colombo. Initiated by the Goethe Institut and its electronic music web-platform BorderMovement, the first edition of Pettah Interchange served as a showcase for the original material composed and recorded by musicians from Germany and the south Asian region during the “Sound Camp” artist residency that took place in the outskirts of the city in July 2012. Over the last four years, the event has evolved into one of Colombo’s most celebrated alternative music events, having taken place each year within the walls of crumbling colonial buildings, grubby market-places and abandoned Cinema Halls.
The 2015 edition of Pettah Interchange took place on the 8th of August 2015 inside the sprawling and dilapidated Rio Cinema & Hotel complex in the heart of Colombo’s Slave Island district. With a lineup of over a dozen musicians from Germany, India, Pakistan, The Maldives and Sri Lanka, Pettah Interchange aims deliver a high-quality slice of the underground club experience.
